Voice AI platforms, compared

Talkr vs. the field

Vapi, Retell AI, and Bland AI compete for the same buyer Talkr does: teams building production voice agents. Cognigy and PolyAI solve a different, heavier problem — full contact-center replacement. Here's how they actually stack up.

What that table actually means

Where Talkr is structurally different

Self-hostable, full stop

Every platform on this page is a managed SaaS you route live calls through. Talkr is the only one that can run entirely inside your own infrastructure — no third party sits in the call path unless you want one there.

No per-minute platform tax

Vapi, Retell, and Bland all add a markup on top of the LLM/STT/TTS costs you'd pay anyway. Talkr's cost is the provider costs plus your own infrastructure — nothing layered on top.

Real multi-provider choice

Swap LLM, STT, TTS, and telephony provider independently, per organization, with your own keys. Most platforms here lock you to their own orchestration layer or a curated shortlist.

Widest telephony surface at this tier

Seven native telephony providers — including self-hosted Asterisk/ARI — is unusually wide for a platform this size. Most competitors integrate two or three.

MCP-native, in both directions

Build and edit a live agent by talking to Claude, Codex, or Cursor — and separately, let the agent itself call out to any MCP server mid-call. Not documented as available on any other platform in this table.

Is Talkr right for you?

Built for teams evaluating Vapi, Retell, or Bland

If you're comparing voice-agent platforms and need to run inside your own infrastructure, choose your own model and speech providers, or stop paying a per-minute markup on top of provider costs — that's exactly the gap Talkr fills. If what you actually need is a full contact-center replacement — IVR, automatic call distribution, agent-assist — Cognigy and PolyAI solve a different, heavier problem than a voice-agent platform does.
